Heathrow’s International Wheelchair Day and the huge tech debut
London’s Heathrow airport is currently facing a major challenge- how to address the growing challenge of accessibility. Heathrow plans to address this major challenge with a huge event, the International Wheelchair Day, along with a huge product debut.
In celebrating the huge International Wheelchair Day, Heathrow has teamed up with OmniServ, a leading global provider of facilities management. Heathrow and Omniserv plan to address the growing challenge in the airport with a huge tech makeover.
The two have teamed up to introduce the latest innovation in wheelchair technology, the Japanese-developed WHILL Model Ci wheelchair. The two have selected the Heathrow airport, as the testing ground for the newly developed WHLL wheelchair, to find out whether they can enhance the airport experience for people with mobility issues.
According to the company's recent press release, the newly-developed WHILL Model Ci is a life-changing assistive personal mobility technology that integrates IoT (Internet of Things) to deliver premium customer care.
The high-tech WHILL wheelchair was designed by WHILL, a US-based startup company founded by a group of Japanese engineers. The high-tech wheelchair has received numerous awards, which include the CES 2018 Best of Innovation Award for Accessibility Tech category. Additionally, it also awarded the Japan Institute for Design Promotion’s Good Design Award in 2016.
